Hi, I'm Kirsten Mock, the founder of Body Intelligence Wellness™. I'm a trained hypnotherapist, counsellor and wellness practitioner, and I work with people living with chronic pain, chronic illness and ongoing health challenges. I also support family members and caregivers who are trying to understand and support someone they love. My work grew out of something much more personal than a professional interest. I've lived with chronic health challenges and pain for much of my life. Those experiences changed the way I think about health, symptoms and wellbeing and ultimately led me to develop the Body Intelligence™ approach.
My experience with health challenges began when I was very young. Over the years, I experienced different health conditions, symptoms and forms of chronic pain. There were periods when my health was a major part of everyday life. I spent a lot of time trying to understand what was happening in my body and looking for ways to support myself. One of the most significant experiences was developing bilateral trigeminal neuralgia in my early twenties. For years, I lived with severe facial and head pain. I tried different approaches, including medication and nerve blocks, but they didn't provide the lasting change I was looking for. Eventually, I discovered how powerful the relationship between the mind and body could be for me personally. After working with hypnotherapy, I experienced a significant change in my pain. My own experience of becoming pain-free from bilateral trigeminal neuralgia became an important part of why I wanted to help other people explore complementary approaches to chronic pain and illness. That experience did not teach me that there is one solution for everyone. It taught me that there may be more to your experience than the symptom itself and sometimes understanding that bigger picture can change the way you approach your wellbeing.
Over time, I began bringing together the different things I had learned through my own experiences, my professional training and my work with clients. I didn't want to create another approach that focused on just one part of a person because we aren't just a symptom, we're not just a diagnosis, we're not just our thoughts, we're not just our nervous system and we're not just what we eat. All of these things can be part of the bigger picture of how we experience life and wellbeing. This is where Body Intelligence™ came from.
It's an approach centered around developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between your:
Mind
Body
Nervous system
Thoughts and emotions
Lifestyle and habits
Everyday wellbeing
The aim is not to tell you exactly what your body is doing or give you one explanation for your symptoms. It's about helping you become more aware, informed and involved in your own wellbeing.
I believe that supporting your wellbeing doesn't have to mean trying to change everything at once. Instead, we can start by understanding where you are now. What are you experiencing? What have you already tried? What do you notice about your body? What happens when you're stressed or overwhelmed? What patterns have you developed? What would you like to be different? From there, we can explore practical tools and approaches that may be relevant to you.
Depending on the person and what they're looking for, my work may include:
I don't believe you need to follow a perfect routine or make huge changes overnight. Small, consistent changes can be meaningful too.
My primary focus is supporting people living with:
Persistent pain can affect far more than the area that hurts. It can influence sleep, stress, movement, emotions, confidence, relationships and everyday life. My work provides complementary education and practical tools to help you explore your experience from a broader perspective.
Living with chronic illness can be exhausting physically and emotionally. You may be managing symptoms, appointments, uncertainty and the impact your health has on everyday life. Body Intelligence Wellness provides a space to learn, explore and develop practical ways of supporting your wellbeing alongside appropriate healthcare.
When someone you love lives with chronic pain or illness, their health challenges can affect you too.
You may want to understand what they're experiencing, know how to support them without taking over, or learn how to look after yourself while caring for someone else.
One of the things I feel most strongly about is that people deserve to feel involved in their own wellbeing.
That doesn't mean you are responsible for your illness.
It doesn't mean you can simply think your way out of a medical condition.
And it doesn't mean you should stop appropriate medical treatment.
It means that you can learn more about yourself.
You can become more aware of your patterns.
You can explore different ways of supporting yourself.
You can develop practical tools and you can make informed choices about your wellbeing.
Not every symptom has a simple explanation, and your experience deserves to be taken seriously.
Supporting your wellbeing is not about creating another impossible list of rules.
Different people need different forms of support.
How we think, feel, respond to stress and live our everyday lives can be relevant to our overall wellbeing.
You don't have to understand everything before you begin. You can start with one small step.
I created Body Intelligence Wellness because I wanted to offer something that reflected the way I now understand wellbeing. Not a promise of a quick fix. Not a claim that one method works for everyone and not another list of things you're supposed to do perfectly.
Instead:
Learn.
Explore.
Practice.
Notice.
Discover what supports you.
That's the foundation of Body Intelligence Wellness.
If you're living with chronic pain or illness, you may have already spent a lot of time searching for answers. You may have been told that your symptoms are simply something you have to live with. You may have tried many different things and feel unsure about what to believe anymore. I don't promise that Body Intelligence Wellness has one answer for you. What I can offer is a place to learn, explore and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your wellbeing. My hope is that through this work, you feel more informed, more supported and more confident in taking an active role in your own wellbeing.
